Planning tools for hosting and rooms

Measure once, then let the arithmetic follow: place settings, tablecloths, seats, food, drinks and rugs. Every tool shows its rule and sources, and works without an account.

Set the table

  • Table setting diagram: Fork left, knife right with the blade facing the plate, water glass above the knife. Build a basic or formal setting and print it.
  • Tablecloth size calculator: Tabletop plus twice the drop: 6–8 in for casual meals, 10–15 in formal, about 30 in to the floor.
  • Table seating calculator: About 24 in of table edge per guest comfortably, or 20 in if you squeeze; add end seats when the table is at least 30 in wide.
  • Seating chart maker: Allow about 24 in of table edge per guest, assign every seat and print matching place cards.
  • Place card maker: Print fold-over place cards with guest names and table numbers.

Host the party

  • Party drinks calculator: Two drinks per guest in the first hour, then one an hour, rounded up to bottles, cans and bags of ice.
  • Party food calculator: Shopping amounts for appetizers, mains, sides, bread and dessert; kids count as half; Thanksgiving turkey at 1.5–2 lb per guest.

Plan the room

  • Rug size calculator: At least 12 in longer than the sofa with 12–18 in of floor to the walls; 36 in past every edge of a dining table.

Tools give planning guidance from named sources. Measure your own table, room and furniture, and confirm product listings before ordering.
