Lunch follows the shade

The olive leaves draw moving shadows across the cloth. One guest folds a napkin loosely, another turns a glass to catch the light. The flowers sit low and uneven, as though they were gathered on the way to the table. There is nothing precious about the arrangement. It is a place for bread to be passed and for lunch to discover, quite naturally, that it has become the afternoon.

Keep the branches loose and the napkins softly knotted. A little undone is just right.
